About this Course

Do you like maps? Do you spend a lot of time scrolling through online maps exploring the world while wondering how the technology worked? Have you ever been impressed by an informative map illustrating a book or article, and wanted to be able to make a map like that yourself?

Maps, both online and on paper, are products of digital mapping technologies encapsulated in geographical information systems (GIS). This course will introduce you to the basic theory and design of GIS systems, while learning how to make the most of the many online mapping systems you see everyday, and to make maps yourself using GIS software to illustrate your own research and presentation projects.
